how do you wash your walking shoes without destroying them?
my favorite walking shoes are VERY dirty. they mostly have cloth on them and I want to know how to wash them. i am afraid that if i put them in the washer they will get beat up too badly and will lose their shape. what should i do?

I run mine thru the wash,, I just don’t let them get beat up in the dryer. Set them outside in the sun to dry,, mid way,, check them to shape. I take the strings out and wash them in a bowl of minimal bleach and detergent, let soak for an hour,, rinse,, and they come out nice and bright.
First bang and brush off all the caked on dirt. Remove any laces and wash by hand. Scrub the soles with a bleaching cleanser and throw them into the washing machine with other old towels and such. After the spin, pack full of wadded newspapers, after a few hours change the newspapers, this helps the drying process go quicker and maintain shape of shoes. Do it a third time if you need your shoes the next day.

My husband is like the biggest shoe fanatic and he spends a lot of money on his sneakers. The last thing he wants to do is to ruin them by using cheep cleaning supplies. What seems to work for him is using a tooth brush for the bottom part, where the sole starts. He uses baking soda and dish-washing liquid on the tooth brush. He soaks then washes the shoe-strings in Shout and Woolite. For the top parts of the shoe, he uses a soft wash cloth (one that can not cause scrapes or scratches) and a light soap along with bleach, if the sneakers are white. He never put a shoe in the washer or dryer because this could cause shrinking, bending or folding of the leather. To ensure a long life of your shoe, you should clean it at the first sign of dirt or dust.
i put mine in the wash but first i put them in a pillow case and tie it shut so they wont get tangled with something else im washing with them and to dry them i put them on a show rack and let them dry on my frount porch.
