I really thought these shoes were a stupid idea–how can you kick properly in shoes, really? However, I’ve tried four or five types of foot pads and always had problems with slippage, straps getting between my toes, and with my feet getting sore. I broke down and bought a pair of these this weekend at a tournament, and they absolutely rock! No matter what you do, they absolutely do not slip. They are less bulky than a lot of foot pads, so they allow more precisely targeted kicking. I was worried that competing in them without practicing in them first would be a problem, but there was exactly zero adjustment time. They aren’t as flexible as traditional footpads, but I found that I was still able to flex my foot back to do a good side kick. I also got kicked with a couple of different pairs of them (hey, you can’t block every kick) and they did not hurt any more than regular footpads. When these wear out, I will definitely buy more.
