What on earth shoes do I wear with office attire?

Although this is not by any stretch my first job, it's the first job I've held where I must dress professionally, in office attire. I went out yesterday and bought lots of pants, a couple skirts, and ten different blouses/sweaters, and feel pretty confident about my choices, but now I face the problem of shoes...

Most of my pants have wider legs at the bottom - must I wear heels or is there something more comfortable (I'm very tall and have never worn heels)? What about with knee-length A-line skirts - flats or heels, and what style?

If I could only buy two pairs of shoes (I already own one - black square-toed 1-inch heels), which two would be most versatile?
I should add, based on what Samantha said, that this is not an extremely professional nor a corporate environment, so suits are not expected, simply professional wear. Even the director wears flats, so I know that's acceptable.

I think heels look killer, but obv. not too high or slutty for work. You should bring another pair of shoes to work because you will have really sore legs if you’re on your feet all day.

It depends who you’re entertaining.

I worked in a professional salon and a media company where you had to really make an effort to look good, and I knew a few people who brought shoes into work. On your way into work you shouldn’t wear nice shoes anyways, because they might get damaged.

Congrats! Nice to see you. I always hate finding shoes for this type of clothing. I think maybe the second pair you get should NOT be heels. You are already tall and you want variety, esp. since you are not used to heels.

I’m going to send this ? to a friend I think can help more…. :D

edit: I agree with the guy above me too. I always see women change into different shoes when they get to the office. I even see them show up in sneakers.

Go with another neutral, like navy or gray, depending on the other colors of pants and skirts you have. You generally want pantyhose or stockings to match the color of your skirt and shoes. Make sure that you never wear flip-flops or shoes that make a sound like flip flops. Closed toe shoes only. A slight heel is OK, but if you need flats to be more comfortable, try to find something stylish or more fancy to dress up your shoe choice. Most of the shoes on this site are OK. Skip sling-backs or shoes that don’t cover your entire foot. It’s OK for the top of your foot to show, but not your heels or toes.

First of all… congrats on ur new job…

If the dress code is professionally… that means ur heels have to be about 5 cm… which is around 2 inches…
usually black… n has to look nice n clean… no wedges… no flats… none of those stuff are part of the professional dress code…

you must always dress like a professional when working
in a professional environment, choose a pair of open toe
spaghetti straps from Liz Claiborn or Nine West; black of
course…nothing says professional like the color black, also
elect to go with a slip-on in a low heel for comfortability…
nomatter how professional you may want to seem, nothing
says professional without saying style and comfort.
